Which service do I need?
Structural / developmental edit
This is the most intensive of the edits and should be completed first. It looks at the overall structure of your novel for content, chunking, and flow. A structural /Â developmental edit lets you know what you’ve done well and then makes recommendations including:
- Notes on at least 38 plot, character, and scene elementsÂ
 - Which sections may need some revisions for conflict, character, flow, etc.
 - Where to move, cut, or add sections to enhance conflict, characters, and flowÂ
 - Overall and scene word counts for genre and flowÂ

A structural edit DOES NOT revise your novel for you, nor tell you definitively which direction to take. We respect that YOU are the artist, and YOU make all final decisions on your novel’s revisions.
Copy edit / line edit
The copy edit / line edit focuses in on individual paragraphs and sentences and makes suggestions regarding:
- ToneÂ
 - StyleÂ
 - VoiceÂ
 - Readability

A copy edit / line edit DOES NOT address the structure of your novel. You should be confident you have a solid structure BEFORE spending money on a line edit.
Proofreading
Proofreading is the final step before publishing your novel. It focuses solely onÂ
- Spelling,Â
 - Grammar Â
 - TyposÂ

If you have a solid structure and have gone through a comprehensive copy edit / line edit and made revisions to your tone, style, voice, and readability, you are ready to hire a proofreader.Â
